Magnom – Future Proofing of Hydraulic and Lubrication Systems

We must ‘Future Proof’ our design specifications and continue to inject new technology into our systems to improve performance, reliability & availability while reducing warranty & ownership cost.

Magnom News

Have you ever wondered what causes failure of an otherwise healthy fluid system? Turns out the biggest risk for your hydraulic system, aside from heat, is microfine contaminants! These super sharp and incredibly hard particles circulate through hydraulic systems causing degradation of critical components.

Magnom filters have been solving this problem for over 80 years! They have the unsurpassed ability to remove microscopic ferrous particles from fluid systems regardless of where they are within the system. The patented core design ensures there is negligible pressure drop across the filter.

Exporter Insights 2018 – Ernie Lynch Featured

Exporter Insights 2018 is a national report by CanadianManufacturing.com focused on industrial businesses that export their products and services overseas. This year’s report included a number of top Canadian exporters including Ernie Lynch. His contribution can be viewed on pages 12-14 of the report. Below is a short excerpt.

Meanwhile, what works for one exporting business, might not work for another. Lynch Fluid Controls, for instance, recently set up a new facility in the U.S. to handle shipments from its Canadian manufacturing plant, mainly because it didn’t want to rely on a third-party logistics provider, better known as a 3PL. “We wanted to have our own people handling our own goods without any interference from the states happening,” Ernie Lynch said. “We’re very tight on quality control so if our own people are trained the way we want them to be trained then there’s a higher probability of success in doing it that way.” While the hydraulic equipment manufacturer has been shipping product to the U.S. for years, the company decided it was time to establish a bricks and mortar presence south of the border, partly as a result of the changing political climate.

Lynch Fluid Controls U.S. expansion takes off without a hitch

Invest Buffalo Niagara worked with Lynch to set up cross border meetings so that they could get information on incorporation, tax and accounting, banking, immigration, and human resource compliance in the U.S. Research concerning workforce, and colleges and universities was given to help the business case.

“Owning A business is like making a painting that never dries” – Ernie Lynch

Invest Buffalo Niagara also coordinated the site selection process and helped find their ideal site. In their first phase, they have set up a warehousing and distribution space. In each of their first 10 months, LynchUSA has hit targets set, reaching 210% of their goal in June. Their current location in Niagara County has space for eventual expansion into manufacturing.

The top 7 reasons that hydraulics will be around in another century – By Josh Cosford

In some ways, hydraulics is an ignored technology. The research dollars going into fluid power is miniscule compared to electronics, and although it’s partly because hydraulics is a mature industry, I don’t foresee this changing any time soon. Regardless, the benefits of hydraulics are high, so it will always have a place in our world, and I feel strongly enough about this to share my list of 7 reasons hydraulics will still be around in 2116.

1. Hydraulics have the highest power density of any mechanical transmission system in existence. This means the most force and power can be created from the smallest possible actuator. A medium-duty hydraulic cylinder with a 2-in. diameter piston will operate in the range of 1500 psi. A 2-in. diameter piston has an effective area of 3.14 in.², and every one of those 1500 pounds per square inch will work upon every one of those 3.14 square inches on the piston. Quick math results in that little 2-in. cylinder being able to push more than 4700 pounds of force, which could lift your 7-series BMW without breaking a sweat.

To be honest, 1500 psi is not a lot of pressure. Most off-highway machinery runs over 4000 psi, such as in excavators or loaders. This same 2-in. bore cylinder could now lift over 12,500 lbs, which is enough to elevate a John Deere 50D excavator itself. If you think that’s awesome, consider the cylinders used in the compact hydraulic tools industry, where they drop “pounds” altogether and start talking in “tons.” A single, 2-in. bore cylinder operating at 10,000 psi can create force to the tune of 15 tons; that’s 15 tons from something the diameter of a lemon.

2. Hydraulics will exist after the zombie apocalypse. In fifty years, when the Internet of Industrial Things is the norm, and then in a further fifty years hence when we are left with a fraction of our population non-dead from the undead, hydraulics will save the day. If and when electronics cannot operate, liquids will certainly exist for us to push through tubes and move things at the other end. Intl. Minister of Trade Ed Fast Visits Lynch: Highlights Government Support for Canada’s Manufacturing Sector

The Canadian Minister of International Trade, the Honourable Edward Fast, Member of Parliament for Abbotsford, British Columbia and Brad Butt, the local Conservative Member of Parliament (MP) for the Mississauga-Streetsville riding, visited Lynch Headquarters.

“(Lynch is) one of those companies that we, as a government, are so proud of”

Following a meeting with President Ernie Lynch, the company’s CEO/president, the Minister of International Trade was impressed with Lynch’s ability to export its products to over 50 countries. “(Lynch is) one of those companies that we, as a government, are so proud of,” he said, adding that most small to medium-sized enterprises are reluctant to make the leap to international trade. “Canadians are a cautious lot. For us to venture into something new, we need a bit of a nudge.”

Fast said that the government can help Canadian companies trade with international markets by putting in place policy framework agreements, which overcome barriers such as tariffs and red tape. “We want to make sure that when Canadian companies invest all over the world, those investments are secure,” he said. Along with the Minister, Lynch Fluid Controls was host to numerous media representatives including The Canadian Business Journal, South Asian Weekly, Polish, Italian media, as well as Mississauga News.

Mississauga’s Lynch Fluid Controls Inc. has, for a quarter-century, been a North American leader in the design, manufacture, and distribution of hydraulic motion control manifolds, and integrated hydraulic systems.

From its cutting-edge, 40,000-square-foot facility at 1799 Argentia Rd., Lynch supplies motion control to industries such as: automotive, aerospace, material handling, mining, logging, industrial, mobile equipment, plastics, medical, and even entertainment – from hit productions like Miss Saigon, the Phantom of the Opera, Cirque de Soleil, to movies like Terminator 2 and Universal Studios’ productions.

This kaleidoscope of business interests comes to a head in April when Lynch celebrates 25 years serving its growing list of customers.

“We sell into 48 countries, and have a goal of one hundred by 2020,” says president and CEO Ernie Lynch.

At present, exports account for approximately 30 per cent of the firm’s total sales, and Lynch is eager to up that to 80 percent by 2020.ISO 9001 and AS9100B certified, the Lynch Group of Companies is divided into Lynch Fluid Controls Inc. (manufacturing and distributing for mobile and industrial markets), and Lynch Dynamics Inc. (design and manufacturing for the aerospace and medical industries).

Lynch’s exclusive distribution arrangement with the Florida-based Sun Hydraulics – a leading designer and maker of high performance screw-in hydraulic cartridge valves, and manifolds – has been the backbone of its manifold manufacturing division. They’ve been able to take valve integration to a new level and are now suppliers to many well-recognized fluid power establishments and OEM’s.

“We’re the master integrator/distributor for Sun Hydraulics Corp,” explains Lynch.

“That’s a huge help, having that relationship with a publicly traded company on NASDAQ. “We’re also a certified manufacturing partner with Sun Hydraulics.”

Lynch provides complete and fully functional manifolds ready for the customer’s application – both from its standard product line, or customised to specifications.

Lynch’s support of the customer includes conceptualization, engineering, component selection, 3D modeling/design, machining, assembly, documentation and validation. They have a marketing department and re-seller location system in-house. Continue reading “Best in Business: Celebrating 25 Years!”
